Oh Canada!!

It’s been awhile since we last posted and we have not driven our trikes off a cliff! We are still here in Eastern Ontario and our plans took a bit of a detour. Well, Roger’s plans took a detour and Wendi got want she has always wanted - a cottage on a lake!

We bought a cottage!!!!!! We were just casually looking and found a gem. Wendi cried when she first walked on the property. It was pouring rain and it didn’t matter a bit… she could tell that this property was the one. It spoke to her and once she gets a bee in her bonnet - watch out!! So here we are living the cottage dream on Bobs Lake. This lake should have a sexier name because she is a beauty. We have 650 feet of shoreline on the largest wilderness lake in Ontario. We can only see three other cottages from our 7 acres. We have loons, seagulls, trumpeter swans, Canadian geese, and the most amazing morning light and sunsets. Plus enough maple trees to learn how to make syrup this spring.

Plus we have a shit ton of work to keep us busy on the property. Both of my brothers came this week for a massive work party, Canadian style. Chain saws, log splitters, rakes, shovels, and a enormous bonfire for three days. We cut down trees to clear out our view and clean up the property. Plus we had to get our winter stock of wood started. We are in our element.

Andrew brought his boat and we got to tour the lake. The fall colors were in their full glory plus there are miles and miles of open shoreline to admire. We also inherited a scrappy rowboat with the property so we got to take that out for a spin. What strikes me about the lake is how few cottages are here and yet we are only an hour from Kingston and 25 minutes from Westport. So we have a vineyard and gourmet pizza just around the corner when we feel the need to put on clean clothes and go into town. We are pinching ourselves.

So, we are sending out an open invitation for visitors to come cross country ski on the lake in the winter or canoe and swim in the summer. We will be here for the month of November and go back to Bend for December. Then we will return sometime in January so we can sit by our wood burning fireplace and craft away.

Oh how exciting 🎉🎉 Your lake “cottage” looks idyllic! (A cottage in the U.K. is a tiny place, not so your new pad!!) I’m just so happy for you both that your already amazing trip, has also helped you find this really beautiful and peaceful place. There’s nothing better than looking out over water. I was cutting out an article on travel to Canada the other day, so now I know one place to definitely put in the list! Such fun also to have Andrew and Nige to come and help you - are their places relatively close to your new house? Enjoy the coming month and all the fall colours. Lots of love Tessa xx

You are missed at Peak exercise class and we missed you at Soccer. Your cottage looks idyllic. I would love to live there or at least visit. May your family and community help you make it cozy and home for the winter. May you find peace and healing there. You are loved.
